Release Year=2017; Joanne Brunwin; Review=Lines in the Sand is a gripping debut short documentary by Joanne Brunwin, exploring the aftermath of the Syrian war and it's affect on the now displaced community. In the wake of the largest movement of people across the globe since the Second World War, we witness the initial shock of two Syrian families attempting to come to terms with their new living situation. At a functioning petrol station on a busy highway in Northern Greece, inside an informal and unregulated campsite we meet Yassin, Rashed, Nalin and Mosab: all Syrian refugees. Each of them invite us into their personal space, allowing us to share in their grief, their memories, desires, hopes and frustrations. We learn that these 'refugees' came from a life much like ours, and dream of a time when they are able to feel at home again.
